“DISCOVERING THE WILL OF GOD”

Romans 12: 1 – 2

GENERAL INSIGHTS

 

1. God has a plan and purpose for each of our lives (and for our church)

 

2.  "You will be able..."                God wants us to know His will probably more than we want to know it so we are able to prove what is…”

 

3.  God's will is "prove-able”          Paul lists three measurable qualities of the will of God:

A.    Is it "good?"

 

  1.  Is it "well-pleasing?"

 

  1. Is it in line with the goal of “perfection?”

(maturing, finishing, completing, etc.)

 

SPECIFIC INSTRUCTIONS

 

  1. Present your body as a  living  sacrifice  to God
    1. What does it mean to ‘present?”   To present is more than to simply make a “gift of;” It is to “to take a stand beside” or “to stand alongside.”
    2. What are we instructed to “present” to God? Why is that significant?  1 Corinthians 6: 19-20, Romans 6: 11-18
    3. How is our sacrifice described?
      1. Living
      2. Holy
      3. Well-pleasing to God
      4. Reasonable
      5. An act of worship/Service

      6. Don’t conform to this world

        a.  Conformity to the world…WHAT?

         

         

        b.  An Exhortation and Our Response…WHAT?

         

         

        c.  Other Scriptures:

                        i.   1 John 2: 15-17

         

         

                        ii.  Colossians 3: 1-3

         

         

                        iii.  Philippians 3: 20

         

         

                        iv.   Matthew 6: 19-20

         

         

                        d.  How does conforming to the world impact our ability to discover the will of God?

         

         

                        e.     Conforming to the image of Jesus…WHAT?

         

         

        NOTE:  It IS God’s will for us to NOT CONFORM TO THE WORLD,

        but rather to CONFORM TO THE IMAGE OF Jesus.
